Elekta announced that Gustaf Salford will step down as president and CEO on March 6.
Jonas Bolander, the company's executive vice president, general counsel, and head of group functions, will serve as interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent replacement.
Laurent (Larry) Leksell, chairman of Elekta's board, acknowledged that while the company's third-quarter interim results fell short of expectations, there were positive aspects, including order growth, strong cash flow, and cost control. However, the board determined that new leadership is needed to focus on improving profitability and growth, supported by upcoming product and software launches.

Salford has been with Elekta for 16 years, including his tenure as CEO. Leksell credited him with leading the company through the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding into new markets, and advancing innovation efforts. “As we look forward towards our next chapter, we have agreed, however, to go separate ways and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Leksell said.
Salford expressed pride in Elekta’s impact, stating, “This has been a fantastic journey, and I am proud of how the Elekta team has provided more than 300 million people with access to radiotherapy and launched new products across our portfolio.”
Bolander, who has been with the Stockholm-based company for 23 years, said he looks forward to leading Elekta through the transition. "I firmly believe we will continue the successful launches of our new products and deliver on our strategy," he said.
