Scriptor Software has released rScriptor, a standalone radiology reporting platform designed to function independently of voice recognition systems, giving radiology practices greater flexibility by decoupling transcription from structured reporting—a process that has traditionally been bundled.
The Pittsboro, North Carolina-based firm developed rScriptor over more than a decade, incorporating AI and natural language processing to support structured reporting and error detection. The tool includes features such as customizable templates, real-time quality assurance, billing and coding compliance tools, and automated impression drafting. It also integrates recommendations from the American College of Radiology to help support follow-up care.
A key feature of the system is its compatibility with any voice-to-text software, allowing radiologists to retain existing transcription tools while using rScriptor for reporting. This flexibility could be particularly useful in healthcare environments where providers have limited control over dictation systems.

“For too long, radiology groups have been forced into one-size-fits-all bundles that deliver subpar reporting or poor-quality transcription,” said John E. Stewart, MD, PhD, founder and CEO of Scriptor Software. “With rScriptor, we’re giving radiologists the freedom to choose the tools they need—best-in-class reporting integrated with the voice recognition solution of their choosing.”
Scriptor positions rScriptor as a response to dissatisfaction with current bundled systems, which often require costly upgrades and may underperform in recognizing individual dictation styles. The platform’s setup reportedly takes less than 10 minutes, aiming to provide immediate productivity gains without requiring radiologists to adjust how they dictate.
Founded in 2013, Scriptor Software licenses its modular reporting system to practices of varying sizes, including solo practitioners.
