Siemens Medical Solutions USA Inc., the U.S. operation of Siemens Healthcare, has informed HCB News that it will be closing down its Wood Dale, Illinois, refurbished systems factory and integrating those activities into its original systems factories.
They also stated that this decision does not impact the operations and business goals of Siemens Healthcare in the U.S., adding that the company will remain committed to its customers and the patients they serve, as well as the community.
In an e-mail, a Siemens spokesperson said "refurbished equipment is a key part of the Diagnostic Imaging business area and plays an important role in achieving our business goals."

The Wood Dale facility opened in June 2012 and is used to refurbish Siemens CT, MR, and molecular imaging systems. The almost-30,000 square foot facility replaced a previous Chicago-area Siemens refurb facility that was roughly 20,000 square feet and had been in operation since October 2003.
The Wood Dale factory also put Siemens under the same roof as its primary refurbished systems provider, Hegele Logistic LLC, according to a statement issued by Siemens at the time of the opening.
When asked what kind of advantages the company will take from integrating the refurbished manufacturing with the original manufacturing facilities, and if this decision reflects any larger changes happening in the domestic refurbished medical imaging marketplace, the spokesperson replied "Siemens constantly evaluates our business and looks for the best way to serve our customers."
