When buying any used equipment, you want to make sure you’re getting the best deal possible and patient monitors are no exception. Steve Ziegenhagen of Gopher Medical Inc.; Andrew Schmidt of Discount Cardiology and Roger Nasiff of Nasiff Associates Inc. shared some tips about what to keep in mind when you’re shopping around.

- Current software and hardware.
If you buy a patient monitor with the latest software and hardware it will help prevent potential problems with connecting to your network or EMR systems. If the monitor that you’re looking to purchase doesn’t have the latest software or hardware versions installed, then at least make sure that it is upgradable. Since this is so important, it should be discussed upfront, prior to your purchase.
- Reputation is everything.
Buying from a reputable company that specialized in patient monitors cannot be stressed enough. Other things you should look for are if they offer a warranty and biomedical support after the sale because that’s a big plus. Some even offer installation services and training as well so make sure to ask.
