Thoughts on the election

November 07, 2012
Yesterday at 6 a.m. I was one of the first five people in line to vote at 111 Centre Street, right across from Hogan Place, the building you've seen so many times on the TV show series Law & Order. It's a block from my apartment and four of the people in line were people I knew from the neighborhood-- pretty amazing if you think about how big New York City is.

It occurred to me how lucky we are to be able to cast our vote for the people we feel are best suited to lead our country and our state governments, and in the case of New York, to judge us.

My choice for president isn't important to anyone but me. But what I will say is that I know that a lot of people in this country are deeply unhappy about Obama's re-election. The same would be true if Romney had been elected. I hope that as a country we can put our differences aside and start to pull together to solve our health care, employment, financial, and infrastructure problems, and the host of others we have.

Don't get me wrong, those of us who live in the United States should consider ourselves fortunate, but I also believe our leaders are more interested in their political agenda than our well being.

Let your elected officials know that's what you expect. That's what I plan to do.
