Mobile imaging surges up 18 percent

Mobile imaging seems to be growing. For the last few years, the mobile MRI and CT market has been soft. Not as many people have been buying new mobile and as a result, not many used machines are on the market. But we've seen 18 percent more inquiries since the beginning of the year and many more users searching on our website for mobile MRI, PET/CT, cath labs, and less so for mobile CTs.

I see this as a good sign for mobile providers and I see this as a good sign for people interested in upgrading.

When top tier hospitals buy new systems, the mid-tier players absorb the trade-ins and when mid-tier players sell what they have been buying, the bottom tier players snatch it up.

Top tier players need new equipment to renew competition, and mid-tier players need to do the same-- and their need is even greater because their equipment is older.

My prediction is that there will be more sales of high-end imaging equipment at this year's RSNA. Whether Romney or Obama gets elected, there is equipment out there that needs to be upgraded and that's going to filter through and have impact on late model equipment and equipment that is not so late model. If you're in the mobile business, that's good news for you. Business is going to heat up for you.
