Franciscan Health Rensselaer in Indiana is modernizing parts of its hospital through a series of investments amounting to $28 million.
The organization plans to upgrade its emergency department and accommodation for the current average daily census of patient rooms, as well as its infrastructure and central plant equipment, some of which has been around since the 1960s.
With a network of more than 40 physicians, Franciscan Health Rensselaer provides primary care and specialty services such as cardiology, orthopedics, urology, oncology and more in its hospital-based outpatient clinics to residents of Jasper County and surrounding communities.
“This update sets the stage for Jasper county to remain self-sufficient and continue to improve quality of life with convenient access to medical needs, employment opportunities and model healthy living in a rural environment," said Chad Pulver, board member of Franciscan Health Western Indiana, in a statement.
Franciscan Health Rensselaer is located at 1104 East Grace Street and is part of the 12-hospital system Franciscan Health, which also consists of clinics and home health services, and provides care to people in Indiana and Illinois.
The Franciscan Alliance Board of Trustees approved the investments, and renovations will be overseen by Tonn and Blank Construction. Some locations may change to keep patients and staff safe, but the project will be designed in a way that allows for all patient care and workflow to continue uninterrupted.
"A key component of the planning for this project is to make sure we continue all patient services as construction takes place,” said Carlos Vasquez, vice president and chief operating officer at Franciscan Health Rensselaer.
A start date for construction has not yet been announced.
