Clarius has unveiled 10 new ultra-portable, wireless handheld ultrasound scanners
Clarius released 10 new ultra-portable, wireless ultrasound scanners to assist doctors across specialties.

Available to Apple and Android users, the pocket-sized scanners are 30% lighter and smaller than previous Clarius devices. They are part of a third-generation product line known as HD3 and come with the latest antenna technology to ensure stable connectivity. They also have Octal beamforming technology, which offers eight times faster frame rates and micron-level resolution compared to other handhelds.

“Our world-class R&D team has miniaturized the high performance of traditional, cart-based ultrasound systems into a new form factor that truly feels like a traditional ultrasound probe. By replacing complex knobs and buttons with artificial intelligence (AI), it automatically optimizes imaging for ease of use,” said Clarius CEO Laurent Pelissier in a statement.

News of the scanners’ upcoming release was announced earlier this month.

The scanners are expected to be helpful for assessing patients with chronic pain. One in five Americans suffer from it, according to the CDC, and there are significant disparities across the U.S. in access to efficient treatment. The adoption of point-of-care ultrasound for procedural guidance has been clinically proven to improve the success rate for pain management treatments.

“The new Clarius HD3 delivers an amazing ultrasound experience for clinicians across specialties, from musculoskeletal (sports medicine) and facial aesthetics to veterinary medicine and pain management,” said Dr. Oron Frenkel, chairman of the Clarius Medical Advisory Board.

Additionally, the company is releasing a new version of the Clarius Ultrasound application, the Clarius Ultrasound App 9, to the App Store and Google Play store. The application offers new AI and imaging tools to enhance image quality and advanced clinical software packages, and features to help clinicians personalize procedures. The new packages include advanced breast, obstetrics, musculoskeletal, plastic surgery, vascular and veterinary care. They offer advanced workflows, comprehensive measurements, and fine-tuned imaging for medical specialists.

“HD Zoom packs more pixels into a small area of focus, full-screen mode fully utilizes the entire mobile screen, while trapezoidal imaging expands the field of view,” said Kris Dickie, vice president of research and development at Clarius, on the app.

The app is now available for download to all new and existing Clarius users.

Clarius HD3 scanners are available for sale, starting at $2,995 and come with a three-year warranty. The scanners are FDA cleared and only available for sale in the U.S.
